    93%
74% cabernet sauvignon, 14% petit verdot, 12% merlot. A mix of clones are employed here with the French-developed Entav clones of cabernet sauvignon and merlot in the mix, hence the name. Dense and deep purple in hue. Offers up the scent of blackcurrant, bay leaf, tilled earth with herbs and leaves. Plummy and cherry-bound building through to the finish. A soft wine all round, supple and drink-worthy right now.

    • Vineyard Notes

Balnaves have approximately 1 hectare each of Entav 338 and 412 Cabernet Sauvignon and Entav 181 Merlot and we are trialling these clones to see how they perform next to our current material mostly Reynella selection in Cabernet Sauvignon and D3V14 in Merlot.

Over the years we have experimented with alternative clones and techniques and this is the third of these wines.

    • Winemaking

Made from new French Cabernet clones Entav 412 and Cape clone Cabernet (74%), blended with our Entav Merlot 181 (12%) and our old Dunstan Petit Verdot plantings G7VI (14%) using a pre-ferment cold soak and soft handling.

    • Tasting Notes

Deep purple in colour, the nose has intense fresh blueberry, blackberry and liquorice aromas, with subtle graphite/Vanillin notes coming from the oak. Bottled early, to be enjoyed when it is young and fresh.
