The Balnaves Coonawarra Vineyard was established in 1975, and is situated at the southern end of the Coonawarra Terra strip. The family has been associated with the district since 1855 and Doug, Annette, Kirsty and Pete Balnaves remain fully committed to a high level of ‘hands-on’ involvement.
- Winemaking
Vintage 2010 produced excellent shiraz from our Dunstan and Vortmann vineyards. This shiraz was co-fermented with a small volume of Gumtree Viognier to add lift and perfume to the nose and produce a rounder mouth-feel. Matured for 16 months in new (25%) second fill (26%) and third fill (49%) French oak, from Seguin Moreau, Saury and St Martin cooperages.
- Tasting Notes
Deep red in colour, the nose shows perfumed dark blackberry fruit, interwoven with spice and toasty vanillin notes. The palate is medium bodied with fleshy dark liquorice/berry fruit, spicy notes and a soft grippy tannin finish.
