2012 Cabernet Merlot

2012 Cabernet Merlot

Vintage 2012 was mild and warm with very low yields. Blended from Cabernet Sauvignon (91%) principally from our Avery and Vortmann vineyards, with Merlot (9%) from Rise and Silage. All the fruit for this wine was berry sorted prior to ferment. Matured for 17 months in new and used French oak from Seguin Moreau, Saury and Dargaud and Jaegle prior to bottling in October 2013. Deep red in colour, the nose is plush with round blackberry, elderberry and cassis fruits and toasty oak. The palate is lighter bodied, with soft dark plum, cassis fruit and fine grain tannins.

HARVESTED 12-26th March 2012

James Halliday Australia Wine Companion 2015: 95 points

A 91/9% blend, destemmed and berry-sorted prior to fermentation, matured for 17 months in new and used French oak from the best coopers. Over-delivers at every point, starting with its opulent bouquet of red and black fruits, then a velvety, rich cassis-driven palate before moving into cedary, lingering finish, with persistent, fine grained tannins. Drink to 2027

Wine Spectator Insider, Rating: 93 points

Focused and expressive, layering the red berry, black plum, liquorice and pumpkin pie notes with finesse and density. The flavours linger easily against moderate tannins. Drink now through 2022.
